I care about the wellbeing of small business owners and have used my lived experience and academic research (PhD) to provide two essential community services. 1. I work at the intersection of workplace mental health and business owner experience. I deliver engaging and educational keynotes about how small business owners can thrive at work, even during the tough times. Clients who book me usually have a network of small businesses they want to help, or are hosting an event where lots of business owners will attend. That's my ideal audience!2. As a result of my PhD research I understand the importance of skill development and stress reduction in small business. I started Rereadable books as a direct result of this research outcome. Books are transportable, cheap, don't need the internet and don't require ongoing subscriptions. Rereadable specialises in business books for every business skill area, offering both new and pre-loved titles. I sell online, and also do bulk sales for organisations that want to enhance the learning of their staff or clients. I've grown a successful small business from humble beginnings to being sold in over 2000 retail outlets around the country and distributed in several international markets. I teach small business growth and sustainability for the University of Newcastle. I've spent the past seven years learning about what's needed to grow a small business without it taking a toll on your physical and mental health. Now, I am excited to share all this knowledge and experience with the small business community and others who want to better understand how to support small business clients.Between 2004 - 2012 I founded, grew and eventually sold Billie Goat Soap. As an entrepreneur I experienced all the highs and lows that come with building a business. I built an extremely successful skin care brand from scratch (starting in my kitchen to eventually be sold in over 2000 retail outlets around the country) and in 2010 we were awarded the NSW Business Chamber business of the year. Consultant contributor to the current Small Business Mental Health project under development with Everymind and funded by iCare.

I was pleased to work with the ATO Small Business team developing resources to support small business clients who experience mental health challenges. The aims of the project were:- to educate ATO staff about the realities of owning a small business.- to determine how the ATO could support small business owners who experience mental health challenges.- to produce a webpage, relevant video and staff training module that demonstrated how the ATO can support small business owners in times of need.- to speak at various national events highlighting the experiences of small business owners when growing and maintaining a small business.Consultation work focused on blending my small business knowledge and experience with an appropriate platform to educate, inform and inspire ATO staff to think about how they can interact with a small business client in need. In addition, information was made available to the small business community demonstrating how the ATO may be able to support them during challenging periods.

I'm excited to be working with a group of small business people from around the country on this very important project. Heads Up is a national mental health initiative developed for Australian workplaces and presented by beyondblue. We recognised a need to tailor support materials specifically for the small business community, and the Heads Up For Small Business project is working in this area. I am responsible for assembling, connecting with, faciliating and sharing information with our small business work group. The group looks at mental health materials being developed for our sector and provides feedback on the relevance of the materials produced. Together we can help a lot of Australians. Grew the business from a kitchen based hand made soap for my son's sensitive skin to a full milk based skin care brand available in over 1800 retail stores in Australia, including Myer, David Jones, Terry White, Toys R Us and many more. Recipient of the NSW Business Chamber President's Prize (2009), and Myer Supplier of the Year (general cosmetics) 2009-10. My ability to approach key retailers, develop compelling sales presentations and close the deal were key to the success of the business. In addition, my skill in securing key PR opportunities and marketing initiatives underpinned the growth of the business.
