I am currently seconded to the BRAVO cell as Planning Lead for winter response. This involves working with the Business Intelligence team, Rosters, and Metropolitan Ambulance Operations on a Work Related Absences project to identify inconsistencies in the tracking and reporting of unplanned absences, and develop specific coding to record unplanned leave in the Power BI system. As Area Manager, I am responsible for leading area operations, managing the engagement and performance of a team of 30 staff, improving service delivery, identifying and mitigating risk, implementing improvement initiatives, managing stakeholder relationships and championing safety compliance.

This role involved streamlining ambulance operations and optimising service delivery by developing and implementing procedures, maintaining open communications with key stakeholders, identifying and overcoming challenges that had the potential to impact response times and streamlining incoming interhospital and RFDS patient transfers. I prepared reports and recommendations on daily challenges and improvements opportunities, and increased the engagement of key stakeholders who were crucial in supporting ambulance operations, including Duty Consultants, Bed Managers, Shift Coordinators, RFDS and staff within St John’s State Operations Centre

Supporting the streamlined delivery of ambulance operations involved providing high quality patient care within the scope of the Clinical Practice Guidelines while providing leadership, mentoring and support to junior Ambulance Officers. I was assigned as Acting Station Manager at Nedlands and Joondalup depots, with responsibility for weekly/monthly reporting, managing medication handling compliance, and the tracking and ordering of supplies. I also delivered group presentations on road safety to the Year 11 cohort at St Mary’s Anglican School, attended Kindergartens to show children through the ambulance, and participated in first aid discussions and demonstrations at various community events.

Providing tactical advice and support involved attending monthly multi-agency meetings to discuss the logistics and risks associated with large gatherings in a COVID environment, and providing advice, insights and support from an emergency access and egress response perspective to streamline the extrication of patients from events. A key focus of this role also involved strengthening strategic relationships with key stakeholders and external agencies, including Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Western Australian Police, City of Perth, City of South Perth, Department of Main Roads, and Royal Perth Hospital.

I championed the safety and wellbeing of staff and patients by communicating and enforcing Emergency Department policies and procedures, including initiating COVID-19 safety guidelines, implementing donning and doffing stations, ensuring compliance with personal protective equipment requirements and managed patient flow. I also provided ongoing education in relation to changes to hospital procedures and mandatory government restrictions, facilitating swift communications and recommendations to senior leadership to communicate changes organisation-wide.
