Responsible for the coaching, development, and work output of a team of engineers and technicians working on the design and fabrication of hydrogen fueling infrastructure. The team includes mechanical, process, electrical and I&C engineers, and drafters.Manage all major projects in the department, including proposal development and cost estimating, project schedule development, resource allocation, change orders, customer communication, and review/approval of mechanical engineering designs, P&IDs, and equipment selection (including compressors, pressure vessels, valves, instrumentation). Project Management including technical oversight, client communications, change orders, financial and schedule monitoring, and resource management.  Internal standards development. Developed internal department standards documents including project engineering procedures, piping standard, and manufacturing operating procedures.  Client engagement and business development. Meeting with potential new clients, proposing solutions to meet clients’ needs for unique and novel hydrogen infrastructure projects, and preparing and presenting proposals to clients. Participation in contract negotiations.

Responsible for the planning and supervision of a variety of hydrogen infrastructure projects for OEMs, universities, research, and government organizations. Oversee all aspects of projects including proposals, project schedules and budgets, resource allocation, design calculations and drawings, equipment specification and selection, P&IDs, HAZOP studies, customer communication, and commissioning. Managed multiple consecutive projects – up to total of 11 projects, with a combined project value of over $7M. Oversaw the work of a team of engineers, programmers, technicians, and technologists. Managed project schedules and budgets and ensure that a high-quality product was delivered on schedule. Mechanical/process project design. Performed equipment specification and selection (compressors, pressure vessels, relief valves, instrumentation, heat exchangers, piping), PFD and P&ID designs, general arrangement drawings. Oversaw fabrication work. Daily visits to fabrication shop to monitor progress and provide guidance/management to shop personnel for approximately 1 year period when there was no shop manager or supervisor.  Maintained client satisfaction through responsive and direct communication. Act as an approachable and knowledgeable customer contact offering prompt and effective solutions to clients’ needs. Improved the Hydrogen Infrastructure team’s work processes by developing operating procedures, engineering calculation spreadsheets, HAZOP analysis report templates, and technical/design specifications. Obtained regulatory approval for hydrogen refueling equipment and pressure vessels with local regulatory authorities such as TSBC and RBQ. Successfully worked through challenging situations such as variance applications to obtain full support and approval from the AHJs.

Board member for Hydrogen BC. Hydrogen BC is the regional branch of the Canadian Hydrogen Association in British Columbia. Established with the support of the Government of BC, Hydrogen BC is a provincial partnership that coordinates stakeholders to promote and accelerate the use of hydrogen technologies.

Project management for the design, fabrication, and construction of biomass energy systems (boilers and thermal oil heat exchangers), district energy systems, natural gas-fired glycol heaters, and lumber dry kilns ranging in value from $50 thousand to $8 million. Maintain regular communication with customers and all internal company departments, and perform site visits to ensure that projects are delivered according to customer requirements. Develop project schedules (MS Project) and update client on project progress and milestones. Oversee and review the work of mechanical designers and construction superintendents. Perform engineering tasks such as valve and heat exchanger sizing, process calculations, stress analysis (AutoPipe), CRN applications, P&ID dwgs (ACAD P&ID). Analyze customer energy data to determine energy use. Mechanical design of ASME Section I, Section IV, and Section VIII boilers/heaters and pressure piping to ASME B31.1 and B31.3. Gas burner design to CSA B149.1/149.3.

Electrical and controls design, installation supervision, commissioning and technical support for biomass heaters and boilers and gas-fired thermal energy systems. Supervised contractors during electrical installation, trained plant operators, and developed instruction and training manuals. Performed electrical engineering including electrical schematics (AutoCAD), PLC programming (RSLogix), HMI design (Wonderware Intouch, RSView), networking (Ethernet, Controlnet, Devicenet), lighting & grounding design, and instrumentation specification.

Managed transportation engineering projects from the estimating stage, through detailed engineering and field studies, to final report preparation and presentation to clients. Performed statistical analysis of traffic flow data (MS Excel and MS Access) and did modelling and simulation studies (EMME/2) of transportation demand and traffic flow. Developed and presented recommendations to clients based on detailed data analysis. Responsible for training and supervision of subcontractors.

Studied pulp and wood fibres to determine the potential for nanoparticle development. Developed and carried out experiments to study wood fibre properties. Performed literature reviews and gave recommendations on potential techniques to improve wood fibre properties. Analysed experimental results using statistical methods (SAS) and summarized results in reports.

Electrical engineering and design of hydrogen fuel cell test stations. Electrical schematic design using AutoCAD, and ordering and specification of instrumentation and electrical components. PLC programming, remote troubleshooting, and commissioning of equipment.

Performed modelling and simulation (STARS simulation software) of geological reservoirs for the study and development of various bitumen extraction methods (SAGD and VAPEX). Analysed results from the model and presented recommendations to senior research scientists. Developed a mathematical model of several different oil recovery processes and implemented the model in Excel.
