I am an associate professor and the graduate program coordinator in the Department of Nursing at the University of Central Oklahoma. I have taught at UCO since 2005 and have 22 years of experience as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. My research interests include co-bedding twins, patient care simulation, and factors that affect nursing student success.My teaching philosophy is centered around student learning. I believe students should be taught in a method that works best for their learning, yet helps them grow as an individual. Teaching is more than standing in front of a classroom and lecturing. It includes active learning strategies, transformative experiences, and individual mentoring and encouragement when needed. The goal of my philosophy is to provide experiences to help students better understand the concepts being taught as well as teaching students to become critical thinkers and life-long learners.
