Neurodiversity is a natural and valuable form of human diversity. My goal as a special educator is to build each student's sense of belonging and self-worth while supporting their learning through engaging skill building activities. Working with children in public schools inspired me to pursue a NH teaching license and certificate of Assistive Technology through an M.Ed in Early Childhood Education: Special Needs at the University of New Hampshire. As a special educator, I am excited to continue to support my students in this role.Children have a lot to teach us! Nurturing their curiosity and encouraging their sense of wonder is what motivates me every day. Through my graduate research and classroom experience, I have come to value the importance of modeling consistent procedures and expectations for young learners. Having a predictable structure allows students the comfort of routine and the secure space to take chances that support their growing independence. Children learn best when they are engaged in play and actively building connections through exploration.Outside of education, I sing in a variety of bands around the Seacoast. Music has a unique ability to connect people and ideas. I use rhythm, song, and movement in much of my teaching to help students access and build background knowledge. I continuously pair my artistic and creative skills to create and utilize engaging material that is visually appealing and sensitive to students' unique abilities and needs. These combined ideas and practices inform my approach to classroom, small group, and direct instruction with all learners.
