He has served on the Mid-America GIS Board of Directors, received the NSGIC and AR GIS Users Outstanding Service Award and has provided keynote discussions at regional and national meetings. Learon’s straightforward and open approach makes him at ease with GIS corporate leaders, government executives, State GIO’s, members of the Arkansas Legislature or in a casual conversation with a practitioner. Learon is always exploring and testing creative new ideas for how GIS can be developed and used. Learon resides in Little Rock, Arkansas with his wife, two daughters and three sons. Throughout his professional career Learon has balanced a heavy work schedule, devoted family life and still finds time to enjoy the duck woods.

The MidAmerica GIS Consortium, Ltd. is a nonprofit educational organization established to foster the applications of geographic information systems (GIS) and related spatial technologies in the mid-continent region. MAGIC states include, but are not limited to: Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma & South Dakota.In addition to sponsoring the biennial MidAmerica GIS Symposium, the Consortium also sponsors important GIS projects around the region. Projects can be industry specific, such as emergency management, remote sensing and addressing, or they can be related to GIS policy, standards and architecture.

Lead research efforts and supported the utilization of geospatial technologies in the areas of economic development and hazards mitigation.
