Lebon Daniel James III is a Ph.D. candidate in the Educational Policy and Planning program in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin. He has previously worked as a principal and educator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Additionally, he serves as the Co-Managing Editor of the Texas Education Review at the University of Texas at Austin and was a Graduate Student Representative on the Graduate Student Council for the University Council for Educational Administration.His research concentrates on K-12 school leadership, the conditions in which teachers work, and the preparation programs for principals. He investigates the relationship between teachers and principals and how it affects teacher development and retention. Lebon's work has been featured in *Education Week*, *San Antonio Express-News*, and the *Rivard Report*.Lebon is a founding board member and treasurer for Black Outside, a Texas-based education nonprofit providing outdoor programming for black and brown youth. As a board member, Lebon advocates for outdoor spaces that promote healing, community, and reflection for youth. He approaches his work through an equity-driven and design-based mind, ensuring communities that are underrepresented in the outdoors can experience the power of nature based on what they want and what the organization can provide.Lebon previously served as a teacher, instructional dean, and assistant principal at the secondary level in San Antonio, Texas. Additionally, he held several roles, including master scheduler, testing coordinator, GT coordinator, new teacher mentor coordinator, and department chair.​Lebon has received several accolades for his dedication to education. He was awarded the decentralized continuing fellowship by the Graduate School of the University of Texas at Austin, which recognizes his contributions to the field of education. Additionally, he is a recipient of the David Bruton Jr. Graduate Fellowship. In 2015, he was honored as the Teacher of the Year by the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators. He also received the 2012-13 Rising Star New Teacher award at Wheatley Middle School and was named a Dean’s Dozen recipient by the University of Texas at Austin in 2012.Lebon earned his Master of Education in School Leadership from Trinity University. Additionally, Lebon has a B.S. in Communications Studies focusing on Political Communication and a B.A. in Ethnic Studies focusing on African & African Diaspora Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
