Silver Spring, Maryland

Managed a diverse portfolio of grant-funded public health programs valued at >$2 million implemented across 7 health centers in 2 counties serving 30,000+ patients at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Maryland. Led program compliance, quality improvement, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. Programs include Refugee Health Assessments, Family Planning and Reproductive Health (Title X), Population Health and Value Based Purchasing, Colorectal Cancer Screening and Prevention, and healthcare workforce development. Managed a team of 4 Program Coordinators. Achieved NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Recognition and established Annual Reporting. Led Health Literacy quality improvement initiatives. • Established the Health Care Coordination program to work in conjunction with Reception and Placement of refugees from their first day of arrival up to 6 months after arrival, to ensure they enroll in Medicaid and a managed care organization (MCO), establish primary care, and seek preventive health services.• Create policy and procedures for Medicaid application, accessing health care, and addressing the population-specific needs, such as transportation and interpretation.• Provide health case management to clients with existing or emerging health issues within their first 6 months after arrival: 1. Healthcare Access: Identifying in-network doctors, making doctor appointments, obtaining referrals and prescriptions, following doctor’s recommendations, and requesting interpretation at doctor visits, 2. Assistance with Medicaid application corrections (through MD Health Connection), processing, requests for backdating coverage, verifications, and MCO enrollment or changes, and 3. Support to pregnant clients: establish prenatal care, guidance on giving birth in the US, assistance obtaining necessary baby care items, and establishing delivery plan.• Contribute to client self-sufficiency by teaching about the US healthcare system, Maryland Medicaid, insurance benefits, how to access healthcare, preventive care services, obtaining prescriptions and referrals, and right to interpretation.• Advocate for refugee and immigrant health access needs by engaging and coordinating with external partners, local agencies, municipalities, and work groups.

Turkey

Drawing on my experience with international NGOs in multiple countries, I provided expert advice, guidance, and instruction on organizational management and development in humanitarian aid to Violet Organization, a young Syrian organization registered in Turkey. My approach was highly participatory, needs-based, and builds on existing strengths. Methods included training sessions, change and decision-making facilitation through guided discussion, and one-on-one coaching in real-time tasks. Key achievements included: improving external reporting to donors and grantors, the development of multiple concept notes and proposals (including narrative, logframe, workplan, and budget up to $2 million), and facilitating a re-structure of the organizational management and staffing.

Antakya, Turkey

Remotely managed IRC’s hygiene promotion program in north western Syria from Turkey serving 50 camps hosting up to 50,000 IDPs, specifically:• Led the implementation of the hygiene promotion component of the environmental health (EH) program in camps and communities ensuring a holistic approach and a fast paced implementation schedule.• Developed and identified new strategies and activities that ensured that hygiene promotion messages and activities were appropriate and well targeted.• Compiled and edited all departmental donor reports.• Trained all hygiene promotion staff and recruit new staff as required.• Managed and account for stock levels of hygiene kits for monthly distributions.• Collaborated with partner organizations to avoid duplication of efforts and ensure a coordinated response in the area of implementation. Actively participated in the WASH Cluster.• Filled essential duties of the EH Coordinator during staffing gap of 6 months, including preparing departmental spending plans, participating in BvA meetings, leading the department's assessment for new proposals, contributing to new proposals, writing interim and final department donor reports, and making staffing decisions.

South Sudan

• Ensured achievement of the health and hygiene promotion (HHP) objectives across Medair South Sudan programs (3 locations and 1 mobile team) by assessing HHP needs, designing, planning, and advising on HHP response. Responsibilities included community participation, beneficiary accountability, developing and revising HHP curricula and tools (IEC), strengthening technical capacities of 7 national staff, recruiting and inducting HHP staff, improving quality of HHP program implementation, monitoring progress of activities and outcomes, improving reporting, developing a long term strategy for HHP, collaborating on program funding proposals, ensuring adequate HHP stocks, and formulating annual HHP budgets for multiple projects under USAID/OFDA and ECHO funding.• Programs included community campaigns, training of and monthly follow up with health/hygiene promoters, population disease screenings, health/hygiene promotion in home visits, clinical settings, and community meetings, disease outbreak control, using media in promotion (text messages, banners, posters, t-shirts), and community adoption of new technologies.• Populations served included rural, migratory pastoralists, returnees, refugees in a camp setting, internally displaced people, and host communities. These populations had low education, low literacy, and spoke their tribal language and some Arabic. Locations were remote in extreme conditions with limited resources and transportation options.

• Initiated Mavambo Upenyu Wakakwana (Foundations of Abundant Life) Hygiene & Health Education Program for the improvement of maternal and child health in the local rural communities through the Makomborero Nutrition Clinic offering services to children born to HIV+ mothers. Activities included: designing hygiene and health curriculum, training primary community health educator (CHE), teaching curriculum to over 300 caretakers of vulnerable children, recruiting and designing protocol for the training of 6 secondary community health educators, deploying CHEs to teach the curriculum to new audiences, and securing adequate funds for program continuation.• Produced a booklet summarizing all programs, projects, and partnerships of the organization as a funding tool.• Initiate a skills-sharing and support-building women's group in the local area that meets weekly.
