Quarantine entomologists protect plant crops by intercepting and identifying invasive plant pests at ports of entry. In this role, I had the following responsibilities and honors:• Identified insects and mollusks collected in foreign cargo.• Analyzed pest risk of emergent invertebrate pests. • Facilitated communications among stakeholders in trade, Dept. of Homeland Security, and USDA.• Trained inspectors from Customs and Border Protection, USDA, and other agencies to find and identify pests in a broad variety of foreign cargo. • Created trainings and photographic keys for insect identification.• Received of 2012 USDA Deputy Administrator’s Safeguarding Award for Invasive Wood-boring Beetle Project
