I joined the police in 2002 and spent the first few years carrying out an operational role working between response and community police in order to prevent crime, detect crime, investigate crime and bring offenders to justice by reporting to the local Procurator Fiscals office. I then worked in various departments learning other parts of the business including operational planning, resourcing, planning and performance and laterally the criminal justice department.Working in operational planning I was responsible for organising resources and providing operational plans for local events including mutual aid for football matches and force wide incidents.Working in planning and performance I provided weekly and monthly statistic reports for the senior management team based on key performance indicators such as the reduction in violent crime.Working in the criminal justice department I was a case marker. This involved checking all reports prior to them being submitted to the procurator fiscal to ensure a sufficiency of evidence for all charges listed. I also spent some time working in the death unit liaising with the PF and families who had suddenly lost their loved ones. This role required empathy and good listening and communication skills.
