About Lee Byers

I am dedicated to working with people to help them find a sense of agency through a creative, collaborative, and holistic therapeutic process. I'm endlessly curious and am consistently learning new tools to help my clients feel empowered and connected to a supportive community. I love working with other practitioners and community organizers as a way to better understand lived experiences that are different from my own and resources that can help guide my clients to improved mental health. My counseling approach is based on creating a warm and accepting rapport. I'm particularly passionate about helping clients to find a sense of belongingness and support across a wide range of contexts that include facets such as finding or deepening connections with a reliable friend group, identifying a comfortable primary care physician, and seeking academic accommodations. I believe that the client is the expert on themself, that I am a collaborator with the client, and that I can provide the client a safe space to practice new tools for improved mental health outcomes. My background in Academic Advising has allowed me to gain insight into the unique needs and challenges of University students, particularly those in demanding majors. Both within my Academic Advising role and as a Student Counselor, I regularly assisted students with developing various academic skills in-session to improve their academic functioning, find appropriate on-campus academic resources, and to reduce anxiety. I have completed the Basic Training Workshops for EMDR by an EMDRIA-approved trainer and am in the process of completing my hourly supervision. Using my background in music, art, and writing, I employ many creative outlets within my practice to deepen my connection with my clients and to broaden the ways in which my clients can express themselves.
