As part of the Maintenance support team my duties include working with craft teams in fault finding, Installations, decommissioning and routine Maintenance tasks to make sure these comply with the company regulations. From running stake holder meetings, writing Risk Assessments to ordering parts/tools and equipment for the work to proceed. Liaise with various Building managers, Safety and the Planning department to get the correct team and date in place for the work to be done in a safe and timely manner.Other duties I carry out are Apprentices mentor (guidance and help where required) and I am currently Nominated for Mechanical Isolations but I am working on my AP (Authorised Person) to check and approve complex Isolations that Nominated Craft can't do until approved by an AP.

Attending regular safety meetings and carry out building safety inspections. Liaison with management regarding issues from the maintenance team. Safety audits on team jobs, keep safety notice board up to date. Inspector for safety harness, ladder, razor deck, podium steps and patented scaffold tower. Contributing to risk assessment meetings for future projects.

Working in the engineering department ensuring all HSE procedures are followed to the highest standard by carrying out building inspections, safety audits & risk assessments in order to conform to the latest safety standards. Maintenance of equipment in multiple buildings all over the site. Management of the mechanical engineering team in the absence of the team leader. Planning future engineering work and employee holiday approval. Ensuring that KPI targets are met within the department. Process improvement and route cause analysis and solution. Use of new system to site called OPMS which enables the booking of training / holidays / check payments and time booking. Source and order tools and equipment for jobs.

Working in the Engineering Decommissioning team alongside mechanical fitters and electricians. Maintaining several buildings within decommissioning. Installation of new pressure systems using Swagelok equipment. Maintaining plenum / extract fans, compressors, breathing air compressors, diesel generators, ventilation systems and dampers. Also checking steam, water, air & gas pipe systems. Replacing gasket, pipes and valves when required. Use of various tools and equipment including harness, asbestos removal suits, PVC & air fed suits. Qualified in mechanical isolations and able to compose isolation sequences, isolate valves on pipe systems for work to be carried out safely. Testing fire alarm systems including smoke & heat detectors. Operating scissor lift, self-propelled boom, vertical lift, Cherry Picker, grinders and cranes. Also, a power tool vibration coordinator.Removal of old equipment in a safe and timely manner. Any buildings that are not due to be demolished, the equipment within them needs to be maintained or replaced. Equipment such as fan motors, pulley, belts and bearings. Installation of high tech equipment such as robotic arms to operate ventilation damper which are not in reach of personnel.Other duties include – assessing Sellafield personal on the safe use of Podium steps, Razor Deck, Quickstep lifting devices and the inspection of safety Harnesses. Looking after and keeping track of all our departments Test equipment – this includes keeping control of our test equipment locker and log board for location and calibration due dates.
