Working on the Building Better Opportunity project for the 50+ participants under the age of opportunity contract

I was employed as a Keyworker providing 1 to 1 support to young people aged 15 - 25 this was a part of the Building Better Opportunities project specifically Invest in Youth, it is a project designed to make a difference in young people's lives by using an holistic approach to tailor the support to their needs with the overall goal of progressing them into sustainable employment, education or training.

I was a trainer assessor delivering a variety of first aid courses across the country but mainly within the North West of England, I was qualified to deliver First aid at work, Emergency first aid at work, AED courses, Paediatric First Aid and Personal Safety and Lone working courses.

I was through an agency and have been assigned to Blackpool Sixth Form College, I currently provide independent career, advice and guidance to young people aged 16 - 18. I provide information on higher education, further education, apprenticeships, gap years or employment

Providing both 1-1 and group support to students on their employability qualifications and functional skills in Maths & English, Responsible for both the assessing and IV'ing of Functional Skills English - Speaking & Listening, and assessing the Employability Skills qualification at levels Entry 3 - Level 2

Providing Careers advice and guidance within Probation Services across Lancashire within all different aspects of getting back into employment including helping clients to look for relevant training, funding, completing skills health checks to identify transferrable skills, producing CV’s, helping with disclosure letters and any other issues they may have with gaining employment

Working within 6 different areas of the Cheshire area including, Chester, Crewe, Macclesfield, Runcorn, Warrington & Winsford. Working within the probation office job clubs signing offenders up to the Job Broker programme. Role involved confidence building, CV writing, employability skills training, building their aspirations and self-esteem. Getting clients back into work by identifying employment opportunities, sending off CV’s and helping with criminal record disclosure to employers. Also working within Merseyside and Greater Manchester probation offices to take out a group of up to 8 offenders to unpaid work on a daily basis. Tasks would include supervising them in their daily activities, delivering Entry Level 3 accredited qualifications to them and writing up the qualification to be delivered through Oldham College. Also included keeping registers and completing evaluation forms.

Deliver different aspects of life skills and accredited courses to young people aged 11 – 16 to give them the best opportunity to progress further in life with some good qualifications as well as working on their aspirations, confidence and self-esteem. To keep the project admin up to date. This included doing basic invoices, arranging meetings, telephoning schools, parents and other service providers. Make sure registers are kept up to date, contacting schools and local authorities via phone and email keeping them updated on young people then keeping my own records on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. Responsible for completing small funding bids, usually up to £10,000 in order to provide residential, outward bounds activities and to manage a multi ethnic youth group one night per week.Deliver a 10 week programme to clients between the age of 16 – 19 who are not in education, employment or training (NEET). My role included collecting the referrals for the local connexions office then arranging home visits to ‘sell’ my programme to the clients. Once a course was arranged I was responsible for the admin side of the project whilst also delivering 3 day First Aid at Work, Level 2 in Community Sports Leadership, Level 2 in Foot Safety, Job Searching, CV Writing, Interview Techniques and arranging visits to local colleges to employers the get them progressed into further training or employment. My success rate of getting clients back into employment or training was 94%.Delivering a range of First Aid courses in schools, work places or other training providers. The courses I delivered included the 3 day First Aid at Work, 1 Day Emergency First Aid at Work, 1 day Sports First Aid and 2 day Paediatric First Aid. I also had to assess numerous 3 day First Aid at Work courses. These were delivered to people aged 14 – 80.
