A time served tool and die maker by trade, with over 35 years experience in manufacturing in the UK, Canada and South Africa, I moved into teaching in 2014 and completed my PGCE with Sunderland University, and TAQA A1 Assessor's Award during my time at Tyne Met CollegeMy experience as an automotive process engineer has served me well in my teaching role, giving me the ability needed to run courses, manage young learners and pass on the many skills required to develop employability within the industry. I have taught across a span of subjects, workshop and classroom based. Subjects include core units such as Health and Safety, to hand fitting, manual machining, sheet metal work, inspection, and manufacturing techniques. I am also often involved with STEM activities at a local primary school, and am always heartened by the enthusiasm in which these young learners tackle their design and technology projects. At the end of last term I was volunteering as teaching assistant in their upper Key Stage 2 English and Maths lessons, which I found very rewarding. I am currently providing 1 to 1 English support for an Afghan refugee two days per week.I feel proud of the work I have done so far in giving young learners the organisational and hands-on skills they need in the workplace, and I look forward to passing this aptitude to the next generation of engineering and manufacturing apprentices and employees. I am currently looking for a new position, north of the Tyne. I am particularly interested in potential developments around Blyth port, and the STEM training currently proposed for there. I would also consider transferring my capabilities for problem solving, continuous improvement, and organisation to areas outside of engineering for an interesting and varied role. Many thanksLee Dickson

All units are wrapped up within the 5 week period and the learner then moves on to the next unit until all seven are complete.
