Leith Academy

Coordinating a comprehensive programme of 50+ weekly extra-curricular activities across multiple sites in the Leith cluster and wider community, including holiday camps and festivals. Recruit, train, retain, develop and support a large network of coaches and volunteers, tailoring training to maximise each team member’s short and long-term potential. Building strong relationships and collaborating strategically with a range of partners and stakeholders to achieve local, regional and national objectives to get “More children, more active, more often”. Establishing and maintaining strong school to club links, creating pathways for children to maintain lifelong participation. Lead Coordinator for national Young Ambassador programme, developing senior pupils in leadership, coaching, officiating, and becoming role models for their peers. Provide inclusive opportunities by using targeted approaches to remove barriers to participation. Targeted groups include those with additional support needs, care experienced/looked after children, inactive children/families, children experiencing mental health difficulties. Operational budget management, including sourcing funding through grant applications and innovative income generation. Report progress of cluster and individual schools to councillors, management, head teachers, staff, parents and key partners/stakeholders.

Vice President Activities (Sports President)Elected Full Time Officer as Vice President Activities at Glasgow Caledonian University.Responsible for fairly representing over 16,500 students in the Activities Department including 38 sports clubs, 60 societies, our student led radio station and award winning student magazine. This involves;- Executive Committee policy lead for Sports Clubs, Societies, Media Groups, Events Programme, Student Leaders Programme and Freshers Week.- A Trustee member of the Students’ Association. ‘The Trustee Board has ultimate responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the Students’ Association, ensuring it is solvent, well-run, meets its mission, vision and values and delivers its charitable purposes’. Carries responsibility for managing a budget of £650,000 and writing our new 2020 strategy. - Head of planning for our Sports Awards Ball, Blues and Colours Awards and Volunteer Star Awards. This includes engagement with corporate hospitality venues to cater for 300+ guests per event. - Working closely and building effective relationships with GCU Academic Schools, University Executive, Facilities Department, Conference & Events, National Governing Bodies and external partners. - Oversee the budgeting and finances of our Sports Clubs, Societies, Media Groups and Events Programme – a budget of £250,000.- Executive representative for Scottish Student Sport and British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS), working to develop student sport both regionally and nationally.- Responsible for ensuring all activities are inclusive for all students and that all of our work meets the University’s Equality and Diversity policies. - Activities lead for our annual Fresher’s Week, overseeing the induction of 4000 new students every year.
