Originally coming from a successful comedy writing and performing career, I began to develop my producing skills before taking on the full time role of Comedy Producer at Soho Theatre. This entails working as part of the programming team to identify and produce exciting new voices for our stages as well as working with new and early career comedians to support them on their journey. A big part of this has been my role in the development of our Labs programme at Soho Theatre which has helped nurture many performers who have gone on to award winning careers in both live and screen work.To flourish in a role like this takes a passion for finding and working with new performers and a strong desire to make sure that the work is diverse and reflective of the world we live in. With the role requiring so many different hats from programming to developing to working on performers scripts and directing shows we are producing as a theatre, as well as the day to day administrative responsibilities of producing from budgeting to contracting to settling a show post run and more, I need to have excellent organisational skills to keep everything to schedule and ensure nothing is neglected along the way and all parties involved get the best experience of working with us at Soho Theatre. There is always a fine balancing act between commercial and artistic and a big part of this role is to find acts that can serve both needs and develop artistic acts who will one day go on to become commercially successful. This is a balance I believe we continue to excel in at Soho Theatre with many comedians starting in our smaller spaces before moving to our larger rooms as their profiles continues to increase. But there is no resting on these laurels, we must always be looking for exciting new voices to begin this journey as others graduate to the next level in theirs.Comedy and theatre are a passion. To make a successful career in this industry you need care and love for the work you produce as well as pride in what you are putting your name to in the world. Working in this role as Comedy Producer at Soho Theatre has allowed me to fulfill all of these needs.
