Working in a busy emergency department

Providing essential health care to patients on wards working under ward sister and staff nurses. Assisting with the patients hygiene needs and personal care as part of a multi disciplinary team. Communicating with the patients to find out about their health care needs and passing on that information to the nurses and doctors as appropriate.Assisting with the patients dietary needs in a patient centred way. For example identifying if the patient has difficulties that need to be considered such as one sided paralysis following a stroke and ensuring their food and drink is within easy reach of their good side. Also assisting the patient to eat if hey are unable to whilst ensuring they are in an appropriate position to safely eat and you go at their pace.I also followed the guidance of the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) as part of my patient care. This was by way of the physiotherapists advice on how best to help the patient mobilise and the speech and language therapists advice on the patients eating and drinking abilities. This was passed on to me via the staff nurses and patient notes. This was done to ensure the patient received the best and most appropriate care.
