Postdoctoral Research AssociateFlinders University Jun 2010 - Dec 2010Adelaide, South Australia, Au• Provided contract support on project between CSIRO in Australia and US-based Adventus technologies.• Evaluated current processes used for development of silicone materials to replace intraocular lens fluid.• Delivered improved methods and fresh ideas for future development of silicone materials that will result in improved curing with final modulus and extractables meeting the specified limits. -
Phd StudentFlinders University Mar 2006 - Jun 2010Adelaide, South Australia, AuFocused on metal nanoparticle formation and interaction with poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers (G4/AuNP), and potential biomedical applications. Scattering techniques (SAXS, SANS, and DLS) along with resonant techniques were employed to elucidate the different chemistries involved in nanoparticle formation. Interaction between the metal ions and the host matrix and nucleation and nanoparticle growth both in absence and presence of the host matrix were investigated. Microscopic methods (TEM and AFM) supported scattering data showing the nanoparticle size and shape along with location of nanoparticle with respect to host matrix. These dendrimer/gold complexes have many potential uses including improvement of cancer therapies. G4/AuNP nanocomposites were used to enhance the treatment of leukaemia. A commercially available antibody for leukaemia was attached to G4/AuNP nanocomposite. The G4/AuNP/anti-CD20 was attached cells. The cells with gold nanoparticles attached were irradiated with a NIR laser, and subsequent cell death is monitored by flow cytometry. Heating gold by laser has been obtained and subsequent necrosis of cells in suspension with G4/AuNP/anti-CD20 was observed. -
