About Lee Jun Wei
Hi! I'm a second-year international student from Singapore studying History and Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.Passionate about intellectual history, I explore the evolution of philosophical ideas over time. Currently, I'm interested in the Political Economy of the British Empire, exploring how British visions shaped migrant labor systems in colonial South and Southeast Asia. Do these ideas still influence our modern economies? These questions drive my curiosity about enduring colonial legacies in postcolonial societies like my own. With various research fellowships and assistantship roles, I've developed skills like archival analysis and literature reviews to tackle these intriguing questions.Having spent most of my life in environments marked by high inequality, I'm deeply committed to economic justice and amplifying marginalized voices. Through my current research, work involvement with the Center for Social Concerns, and past internship experiences (Mill Village Ministries, Singapore Heritage Society), I bridge the gap between research and social justice. As a current international student and former national chess player, I've travelled the world and exposed myself to a variety of cultures. This global exposure, coupled with my archival experiences, has cultivated an appreciation for the world's incredible diversity. Excitedly anticipating a year in Oxford as a History exchange student in AY 2024, I'm on a continual journey of expanding my horizons. Please reach out if you are interested in chatting! I'm currently on the lookout for internships in academic publishing, history archives, think-tanks, and exciting opportunities in history/philosophy research.jlee97@nd.edu
