I recently joined Shoosmiths as a Consultant in the Planning Team, based in Glasgow. Since joining I have been advising housebuilder, and other clients on various planning issues, including BTR and PBSA developments, changes of use and planning agreements. I have also been assisting funders and purchasers in due diligence exercises.I have over 25 years’ experience as a specialist in Planning Law; advising private and public sector clients on a wide range of proposals, such as wind farm, retail, industrial and housing developments of varying scales. My work has included public inquiries and appeals; planning agreements. I have advised clients on effects of proposed development plans and securing planning permission as well as compulsory purchase. I understand the commercial and other imperatives that are critical to the delivery of commercial, private and public projects. As a local authority legal manager for more than 10 years I led teams advising on planning, environmental and regeneration, roads and transportation, property disposals, land assembly and procurement matters.I was formerly a tutor in Public Law for the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow.
