It was within this role that I received the highest accolade from the Royal Signals Institute, The Princess Mary Medal for my actions in maintaining secure communications whilst under effective enemy fire in Afghanistan. The award singles out personnel deemed to have shown the Corps in a good light.• Member of a small team responsible for managing and monitoring live operational voice nets and CCTV cameras within a Special Operations environment. In this role I was responsible for providing secure covert communications and maintaining systems. When necessary deploy into discreet locations and setup a covert rebroadcast facility in an extremely hostile environment.• Managed, co-ordinated and delivered all Communications systems during the tense transition period of the large scale deployment of British Troops to Afghanistan. As Team leader of the 4 man team we maintained stable and effective satellite communications for up to 50 staff users. My team was commended for our professionalism and steadfastness during the deployment by Senior Command.• Effective management, administration, logistics and training of up to 30 personnel under my command.• I was selected to become an Instructor at the Bowman Training and Advisory Group this involved instructing various levels of user in the principles and hardware of the BOWMAN digital communications system. The role required regular validation of training to ensure best practice and implementing new teaching practices to ensure training remained within the ever changing doctrine.
