Deputy Director Of Retail Leasing
At Aldar, I was responsible for heading up the Leasing of Yas Mall, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, a Super Regional Mall of 235,000 sqm, which was the UAE's second largest mall and is connected to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. The mall successfully opened in November 2014. Yas Mall has a number of “first to market” leases, including 11 retail brands entering the Middle East for the first time, 11 opening their first stores in Abu Dhabi and 9 who are opening their largest stores in the Region. As one of the stakeholders of the project, I provided input into all aspects of the project, including design, leasing strategy and tenant mix, budget forecasting, managing the leasing team for the project, agreeing deals with the anchor retailers and major groups and providing monthly updates to the Board. Prior to leaving Aldar the project was circa 95% leased.In addition, I previously worked on the Al Falah Shopping Centre, a Regional Mall of 73,000 sqm, Al Ruwais Shopping Centre, the retail provision within Al Raha Gardens, Central Market and Motor World, Abu Dhabi.

I was involved in the master planning and leasing strategy for the Great Mall of Dubai (formerly the Dubai Design Centre), which was a 350,000 sqm 3 in 1 shopping mall, including home maker precinct, entertainment zone and traditional shopping centre anchored by a hypermarket. Although I pre-leased over 1 million square feet in 18 months, the project was subsequently cancelled by Nakheel.At the same time, I was responsible for heading up the leasing of Dragon Mart, a 150,000 sqm chinese trade mall, which was probably the most challenging asset that I have had to deal with. I was responsible for over 1,000 leases and 1,500 shop units. I also leased Auchan's first hypermarket in the UAE, which involved taking back a large number of existing units to create space for their unit.

Working alongside my shopping centre colleagues, I was responsible for in-fill and strategic leasing of five retail parks/homemaker centres spread across Metropolitan Sydney, Country NSW and Brisbane. I was also responsible for undertaking Lease Renewals and tenant re-mixing for 2 of Sydney’s largest and most successful shopping centres, Warringah Mall (125,000 sqm) and Macquarie Centre (96,000 sqm). My day to day responsibilities included:• Compiling strategies for tenant re-mixing and leasing;• Working with Development Managers in respect of new developments and extensions of existing centres;• Overseeing the Lease Administrators dealing with Lease negotiations; • Providing strategic advice to Centre Managers in relation to problematic situations within the centres;• Making recommendations to the Board on new deals, lease renewals and market reviews;• Co-ordinating the delivery of tenancies with Retail Design Managers and contractors;• Assisting my shopping centre colleagues on large difficult space within shopping centres;• Acting as the key contact between AMP and the Bulky Goods Retailers Association; • Assisting with producing Asset Plans; and• Liaising with marketing teams in respect of marketing campaigns and initiatives.
