Profile bio

About Lee Tulfer

I combine a thirst for knowledge, creative thinking, and organisational skills. I want to know how things work, and then figure out how to make them work better. I make things happen, build professional relationships and networks, and connect people and ideas. I have excellent verbal and written communication skills, honed by my background as a trainer and writer. I ask a lot of questions. I am a nerd who has found their niche in the retrofit sector. In particular, I am interested in older and traditional buildings. The best way to make these buildings sustainable and to secure their futures is to keep them in use, and that means making them fit for 21st-century life without compromising their character and integrity. My background in buildings history and my qualifications and expertise in energy efficiency combine to help owners of older and traditional buildings to achieve this balance. I also have two side-hustles: I am a freelance writer, mainly writing articles about history and place (I also blog at TheThreeHaresBlog.com), and a member of the Society of Authors. I also offer transcription and translation of Dutch family history/genealogical records, and am a member of the Translators Association. My interests include buildings history, anything to do with wool (if I am wearing an item of knitwear, I probably designed and made it!), photography, language, and maps.
