Lee Wei Kang Email and Phone Number
Dr. Lee Wei Kang currently serves as Vice President for Application Sciences, spearheading the innovative application of genomics, bioinformatics, data sciences, AI, and software technology into practical, insightful, and process-improving solutions for both academia and industry. His data-centric foundation was established during his PhD research at UPM, where he worked on algae and oil palm multiomics, linking genotype to phenotype. He then worked as a Genome Informaticist at Codon Genomics, handling bioinformatics and data analytics for over 10 industrial projects on animal, microbial, and plant omics.Dr. Lee's commercial journey in biotechnology is marked by his success in helping the company secure over RM1.5 million in funding to fuel R&D, commercialization, and university collaborations. He also played a key role in the registration of three national/international IPs and the completion of several national-level projects. Additionally, he is active in academia, serving as a reviewer for university courses, journal articles, and student theses, as well as supervising MSc and BSc students. To date, with 5 years of academic and 7 years of industrial experience, his impressive h-index of 10 with 568 citations from 18 scientific papers in top-tier journals with impact factors up to 10.7, one book chapter, and two patents, showcases his expertise in both academia and industry.Dr. Lee has been an invited speaker at numerous conferences and workshops on genomics and oil palm research both locally and internationally, including in China and Indonesia. With his core expertise in genome and transcriptome analysis covering bacteria, algae, animals, plants, and humans, he is now expanding his expertise to digitization, incorporating AI, big data, and software technology into integrated analytics platforms to generate meaningful insights and answer biological questions by relating genome (genetics; G) to exposome (environment; E) for predicting/explaining phenome (outcomes and performance; P).Leading several multidisciplinary teams, including business development, NGS, bioinformatics, data sciences, and software engineering, he plays an instrumental role in translating this GxE=P formula into industrial applications such as precision breeding and personalized genomics. His aspirations in science focus on the continuous exploration of new technology, buildinginnovative products, and training local talents to contribute to the workforce driving industryand national development in STIE, for the betterment of human life and our environment.
