#1: I love words.I discovered piles of strange and oddly prophetic second-grade short stories that serve as evidence of the above statement. That affinity propelled me to pursue a few word-related degrees: a B.A. in Journalism, an M.S. in Speech and Hearing Sciences, and even a bonus degree in Linguistics. I turned those words into a career in communications, where I get to regularly flex my writing and editing muscles to connect with diverse audiences. Dream job.I also love words in foreign languages. I studied French (fluent), then Spanish (passable), and ultimately Arabic (my favorite of the three, even though I can hardly speak it!).#3 I love people. Some may see that very sentence as an act of rebellion, but I stand firm in my stance that every person deserves to feel valued, heard, and seen. That belief spills over into my work and has taken me some exciting places. From running a parent-focused community and website, to a six-year stint freelancing, to amazing roles in health care communications, I put the audience at the heart of my messaging. I use a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, inclusive approach in all I do.Don't tell anyone, but I even like collaborating with others, managing teams (of actual humans!), and seeking audience feedback. I enjoy using data and insights to tweak content for better outcomes. Nothing beats finding an informed solution to get the right messaging to the right people in just the right way.#3 I love what I do. Over a decade and still going strong.
