As a member of the Education Application's team, I help to build and maintain a broad range of systems that receive upwards to 30,000 users a day, with an emphasis on Continuous Integration and Deployment practices. Our primary tech stack is C# with ASP.NET Core, but given the university's mature software infrastructure and legacy codebase, we are required to have a lot of adaptability, with an emphasis on programmatic problem-solving and systems-scale thinking, rather than on building technology-specific expertise. With my scientific background, I'm often my team's "go-to" person for Python, Linux and data-oriented tasks.PROJECTS:Collab-2-Panopto: I was tasked with leading the build of a production-ready 'EdTech' command line application for downloading course recordings from Blackboard Collaborate, and uploading them to Panopto. The application is built using Python, and has been shared with the open source community. Health & Safety App: To help save time and improve efficiency within the health and Safety department, I created a desktop application for processing large spreadsheets and filtering and emailing results by university department. Built using Python, PyQt5 and PySide2.Borderline Regression App: The Medicine Department uses a series of complex spreadsheets for calculating medical student grades in a series of practical exams. The problems was that only one academic really understood how it all worked. My job was to parse and recreate all the various spreadsheets and plots such that the process could be automated by way of a production-ready Python application.

Applying computer science, physics and mathematics, to planetary science topics. I investigated the behaviour of silicate materials in the conditions associated with superEarth interiors, using a variety of computational techniques to collect, analyse, visualise and interpret data from first-principles molecular dynamics simulations. As a research student, I was tasked with defining my own project, generating hypotheses, designing experiments, performing test simulations on my local desktop, and submitting large-scale simulations to internal and external clusters (e.g. UK's Archer and UCL's Legion). At various stages, this required either writing and running my own simple programs in e.g. bash, adjusting and amending existing academic codes (implemented in Fortran90 and C), and visualising results with command-line packages such as Gnuplot. Note that, due to my concerns over the highly esoteric nature of my project and lack of relevant academic positions, and the increasing success of my part-time business ventures, I ultimately chose to submit my work as a research MPhil rather than proceed to full PhD.

Working under Prof. Ralph Pudritz, my summer research project involved contributing to a wider research initiative on the formation of amino acids in meteorite parent bodies, from a thermodynamic perspective. The overall scope of the initiative was to understand the possible suite of amino acids delivered to early Earth aboard meteorites, and what relevance this might have to the origin of the first genetic code.
