The Information Society is a multidisciplinary journal intended to answer questions about the Information Age. It provides a forum for thoughtful commentary and discussion of significant topics in the world of information, such as transborder data flow, regulatory issues, the impact of the information industry, information as a determinant of public and private organizational performance, and information and the sovereignty of the public and private organizational performance, and information and the sovereignty of the public. Its papers analyze information policy issues affecting society.

Directed and supervised office of over 40 full-time technical and 35 part-time staff and managed a budget of over $5 million supporting a campus community of over 7000+ students, staff and faculty.Merged distance education, instructional technology, and information technology services into one coherent office to better serve increasing technology demands from our constituents. This has resulted in improved synergy between technology areas and reduced technology costs for the institution.Created the Technology Advisory Committee, Distance Education Advisory Committee and Student Technology Advisory Committee. These committees comprised of representatives from the faculty, staff, and students charged with the active participation of the development of the technology strategic plans and infrastructure for the institution.Developed the University Rules and Standard Administrative Procedures to increase accountability in the governance in information technology.Expanded classroom technology equipping every classroom on our campus with instructional technology. Instructors can use the Internet, interactive response systems (e.g. clickers), and our learning management system right from theclassroom.Offer new degrees online or via distance such as: Master Technology Teacher Certification Program, Masters of Science in Criminal Justice, Doctorate in Hispanic Studies, and Master's Degree in Educational Administration.Collaborate between distance education program with community and external agencies to provide education services to our region: Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) and the Texas A&M College of Architecture’s Center for Housing and Urban Development (CHUD) to provide a renewable energy conservation education program to the South Texas region.

The objective of the Journal is to provide a forum for policy-makers, practitioners, and academics to discuss strategies and best practices, tools and techniques for ascertaining the effects of IT infrastructures in government, civil societies and the private sector, and theories and frameworks that explain the effects of IT on development. The concept of development relates to social, economic and human outcomes from the implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools, technologies, and infrastructures.

Produced medical education delivery technologies and research working with faculty and researchers on grants funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Heart Society, Occupational Health and Safety Agency (OHSA) and the National Institute on Occupation Safety and Health (NIOSH) and presented findings at international research conferences.Developed an Extended Learning Initiative and secured grant funding for the development and implementation of a series of online distance education of human anatomy courses.Developed a web-integrated Training and Development database to provide online access to rural community residents for continuing education and training for the West Virginia’s Governor Workforce Investment Office.
