Avant Gardener MV is a high-end English landscaping, gardening, and property management company on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, that prides itself on its professionalism. My responsibilities with the company were centered around the planting and maintenance of client’s gardens. I did spend a couple days a week with the landscaping crew, mowing lawns, cutting hedges, weed whacking, and tree trimming. While working in the gardens, my main horticulture focus was cultivating various types of roses and dahlias. As the Head Gardener, I’ve learned how to delegate and manage group labor. It was my daily responsibility to divide work and prioritize tasks, all while adhering to client requests, and working under multiple timelines and deadlines. I was responsible for the training of two gardening apprentices, whom worked with me part time.

At HMH I worked in the Land Development team. I was individually tasked with creating survey requests, doing sheet setup, creating basefiles, grading walkways/parking lots, ADA compatibility analysis/reports, and basic rational method runoff calculations. Working jointly with other HMH engineers, I helped do signing and striping plans, redline plan checks, demolition plans, finalizing construction documents, creative stormwater runoff solutions, and site visits with contractors. I also collaborated on cleaning up the CAD files for larger projects (Milbrae Station Development). During my internship I also worked with HMH’s Landscape Architecture department to produce concept packages for clients.

Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts

At the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group, I worked under Emma Green-Beach and Chris Edwards to help spawn baby Shellfish: Oysters, Clams, and Scallops. These shellfish are vital to support the local marine ecosystem as well as the fishing community. I also worked with Emma Green-Beach and the Martha's Vineyard Fellowship to help reduce nitrogen levels in the water by harvesting Phragmites Australis. Our goal behind the Phragmite project not only to reduce nitrogen levels but explore upcycled uses for the Phragmites. We explored the uses of making bio-pellets that could be burned in a pellet stove for heat and then the remaining ashes used as fertilizer.

I interned under Joshua Thomson, previously of Sports 5, and currently of Jet8. Together we would travel to Europe & Asia and help arrange and coordinate pre-season matches for European soccer teams. In 2014 we brought Shinji Kagawa and Borussia Dortmund to Tokyo. During 2017 we brought West Ham United and Manchester FC to Iceland, making it the first ever Premier League Team exhibition in the country.
