My biggest passion in life has always been the complexity of teamwork and how it can make or break any endeavor. I had the fortune of learning to manage people in one of the harshest and most dangerous environments you can work in, a steel mill. When you are processing molten steel, every mistake has the potential to result in major damage to the installations and/or injuries to your co-workers, sometimes even fatal.To prevent such accidents, you have to be able to master stress management, technical knowledge, quality assurance and productivity, without micro-managing your team. By building strong and stable social structures based on trust, respect and constant communication, you will empower people to work together, towards a common goal and not against each other. Treat your workers with respect, provide them with attainable goals and they will take you to the moon and back. The bonds formed in my 13 years as an operator and shift manager for ArcelorMittal will last forever and I'm looking forward to form new and even stronger ones in the future.
