I am a highly experienced Media, Public Engagement and Communications Professional, with more than fifteen years’ strategic and project-based expertise gained working in senior leadership roles: helping to make organisational ambitions a practical reality. As you might expect, I have strong digital communication capabilities, I’m passionate about collaborative engagement, and in addition, I can draw from the experience of a lengthy military service: I have become a trusted and reliable adviser at board level. In recognition of this depth of expertise and personal qualities, I have been appointed to a number of board level and public positions: Chair of the Senior Management Team at the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult since 2016; Training Officer for the Glasgow and Strathclyde University Royal Naval Unit; Trustee of Stramash Social Enterprise and Former Vice-Chair of the Public Relations Communications Association, Scotland.As Chair of the Senior Management Team at Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, I have provided across the board leadership, development and communications functionality (deputising whenever necessary for the Marketing and Communications Director): playing an integral role in making the organisation a leading centre of research for offshore renewables: growing from a greenfield concept to a point where it now employs more than 280 members of staff.With the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, I managed crisis communications for some of the Agency’s most significant incidents: including discovery of excess radiation at Dalgety Bay, and the Icelandic volcanic eruption: as well as being an active member of the Scottish Government’s crisis response team. I planned, developed and managed a series of proactive communication strategies with the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult: both traditional and digital, as well as making ongoing contributions to the organisation’s global strategic and business plan; and implemented a strategic communications framework: managing messaging around a key merger. I also introduced new departmental planning systems and resource management tools, an innovative digital apprenticeship scheme, and re-launched the bi-annual magazine (as Managing Editor) at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency; and successfully managed a complex project at Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult to build a number of new websites.I received the Outstanding Performance Award from Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult in 2018 and the Military Values in Business Award 2022 at the Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards.
