About Leesamaree B.

As a Survivor of Human Trafficking that resulted in Complex PTSD, I am dedicated to caring for youth from families where domestic, physical abuse, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, drug use, poverty, and instability occur daily. I have lived in the shadows of polyvictimization, incarceration, mental illness, sexual exploitation, and substance abuse. My mother had me emancipated me at age fourteen; I survived these challenges in the presence of encouraging mentors. I earned my BA and MA in psychology and am certified as a CADC III. I consider myself a Lived Experience Expert. I am pursuing a Ph.D. in psychology after dropping out at age fifteen. My life experiences make me passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth with similar experiences, especially CSEC and homeless youth.I have twenty years of experience working with presently and formerly incarcerated people who are impacted by trauma (specializing in TIC polyvictimization, complex trauma, and sexual exploitation), substance abuse, mental health, and criminality in jails, prisons, and community programs. I have been a program manager for a court-mandated program for youth offenders and a program director with a program for CSEC youth, and I worked with the No More Tears program in San Quentin prison from 2005-2014. I believe in the potency of Trauma Informed Survivor Responsive Care. I have practiced yoga, meditation, & mindfulness for over twenty-five years and incorporate mindfulness concepts in my work. I am persuaded that Mindfulness practices, combined with other therapeutic modalities, especially TIC, help ease stress and pain, calm fears, decrease anxiety and depression, strengthen the stability of the mind, improve relationships, increase self-acceptance, and deepen feelings of well-being and contentment. I am trained and experienced in TIC, CBT, DBT, Harm Reduction modalities, Survivor-led practices, and mindfulness-compassionate psychotherapy. I have eleven emotional support animals, and I work in animal rescue and advocacy. The incredible healing power of animals persuades me to support the use and advocate for Emotional Support Animals (ESA) in treatment, especially with youth who have experienced trauma. I proclaim that sexual and physical abuse is the catalysts indicative of the most heinous of humanity, causing the most life-altering damage. I am committed to helping youth and adults affected by these grave physical, mental, and emotional injuries and advocating for the implementor of true Trauma Informed Care that is led and informed by Survivors.
