I was an online tutor for the Commonwealth of Learning. I helped an internationally based cohort employed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) through a program on Operational Data Management, and Advanced Program Management. My role was to help staff employed in refugee and humanitarian settings around the world get up to speed on UNHCR standards of data collection and management. My students were situated around the world, working in complex humanitarian situations, often within large refugee camps.

I worked with the Commonwealth of Learning to undertake a program evaluation for their popular eLearning for International Organisations (eLIO) service. eLIO works with top-level organizations such as the World Bank, the World Health Organization and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to deliver custom online courses for the professional development of staff.

Subcontracted to Manion Research to help edit, design and produce curriculum handbooks and material for Citizenship 101, a Canadian Citizenship Test preparation course for migrants, new arrivals and Permanent Residents in Victoria. The purpose was to edit various material into plain English and create a standardized and appealing handbook for course participants and facilitators.The work has been commissioned by the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS) and is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Commissioned to design and manage an alternative energy project run by EMACE. Created and undertook participative education workshops directed at rural districts in Sri Lanka. Initiated capacity building schemes for EMACE. Encouraged networking and partnership building between local and international civil society actors. Acted as project developer for Environmental Management Systems for Small and Medium Enterprises (PVT) Ltd., and as a designer on a number of projects including eco-labelling, oil spill mitigation, tackling poverty and social exclusion, and skills training.

Ft. Dauphin, Madagascar

Designed and undertook a poverty reduction project researching sustainable alternative energy in remote southeast Madagascar from October to December 1999. Conducted Participative Rural Assessments with local Malagasy villagers and helped introduce pharmacies and provide initial contact between Azafady and new villages. Completed analysis and wrote a local cookbook by July.

Taught “environmental literacy” within the subjects of English, mathematics, science, and social science to Grade 3 students.
