Harris Broadcast separated from Harris Corporation in early 2013. As an acknowledged leader within the company in the "rights and scheduling" business space, my responsibilities were extended to also lead in the enterprise-level space, and to manage the entire rights and scheduling future direction through a single product line.

I led the strategic design, direction and delivery of the Broadcast Master product suite, drove profitability and managed the P&L. The product targeted the mid-range TV market. One core focus was to meet client business objectives and align our product direction with market trends. To do so I regularly met with clients and with internal stakeholders such as sales, marketing and account management. This feedback, and my own ongoing assessment of market trends, formed the basis for roadmap planning and strategic direction.I therefore led a series of product initiatives, including: • Enhanced airtime sales management, seamlessly integrated into a “unified schedule” technology.• The introduction of non-linear rights and scheduling• Deep BXF-driven near-real-time integration with automation and asset management systems• The transformation of the underlying database from a proprietary product to Microsoft’s SQL Server.• A significant User Experience product refresh.I ensured that we balanced major product initiatives such as these with the day-to-day funded client product enhancements. This required continual prioritising, difficult decision-making and effective communication.I worked closely with marketing, identifying target markets, value and price points, and creating feature/benefits summaries and case studies. I also worked very closely with sales, educating, providing presentation material, and also personally meeting key leads: making presentations, on-site visits and web casts. My capacity to listen, understand their drivers, and find solutions together developed client confidence quickly – relationships that I carried forward as sales leads became clients.(For simplicity I have listed this as a single position. For clarity, we sold BSS to Columbine JDS, which became part of Encoda Systems Ltd in 2000. Encoda was purchased by Harris Corporation in 2004. In 2008 I moved to the USA, continuing to drive the product line forward in each situation.)

I founded Broadcast Systems Software Ltd (“BSS”) with two colleagues. The company created Broadcast Master, a mission-critical application used by TV stations throughout the world. During the period until November 1997 I was a shareholder, director and leader within BSS.In the eight years prior to the acquisition of the company BSS expanded to over thirty employees, with offices in England and in Australia. Our client base was found on all continents and with clients such as the ABC, BBC and the Disney Channel the company grew from its beginnings to becoming one of the leading vendors of quality PC-based broadcast management software.My personal contributions included achieving a number of sales, nurturing relationships with key clients, providing product strategic direction, establishing and running the client services team and then taking responsibility for the product itself.In 1997 we achieved the sale of BSS to the leading company in our market sector, Columbine JDS , on condition that I would continue to lead the business unit for four years.
