Where civil engineering design and construction scope is the dominant portion of the project, I assist in scoping of the work, ensure that the optimal solution is explored, develop technical justifications for capital applications, and approve small project plans, risk rankings and project classification documents.I am the Engineering Discipline Lead (EDL) for the management of change process in which I provide governance should there be changes made to any structure in the Synfuels Gas Circuit and Tar process units. I have developed meaningful working relationships with Sasol Synfuels stakeholders in order to effectively collaborate to achieve business goals that will sustain operations. These stakeholders range from plant foreman to senior management.

During this time I focused on gaining experience and developing my competency with regards to projects and civil construction. The projects that I worked on were in different stages of the project life cycle, which included Basic Engineering, Detail Engineering/Design, Execution and Construction.The primary project I worked on during this period was the multidisciplinary 17th Oxygen Train Project which was in the detailed design phase as well as early construction execution. I acted as the lead civil engineer on the project team with limited supervision from the senior engineer. In this role I provided scope of works, engineering quality plans, execution quality plans, ensured that the scheduled structural design deliverables were being met on time and adhered to Sasol specifications, review of quantities required for construction, provide engineering support for technical queries from the design consultant during the detailed design phase and evaluation of designs during model reviews.I also provided onsite construction supervision, quality control and engineering support to construction teams on multiple construction work fronts ranging from site preparations, storm water drainage installations and construction of a materials testing facility and office area.Being a part of a multidisciplinary project enabled me to develop the necessary skills required to be part of an integrated organization. I developed a detailed understanding of the roles and responsibilities and developed the skills required to be part of the project management and construction execution teams.
