I teach chemistry to national exam classes as well as classes just starting their chemistry career.

I taught the subject 'Chemistry didactics 3' to students in the final year of their bachelor education. This course included seven colloquia of three and a half hours. During 'Chemistry didactics 3' the students had to fully develop a lesson series of 5-10 lessons. These lessons were meant to be given later in the school year during the students' internship / on the job. The design for the lesson plan was focussed on the 'nieuwe scheikunde' philosophy (new chemistry, www.nieuwescheikunde.nl) and had to bear in mind the context-concept model, this means the first lesson had to start 'in the world around us' (context) and later on introduced the associated chemistry theory (concepts). During the course all theory of education (testing, digital assignments, practical work) was dealt with. For this secondary position I was posted at Hogeschool Utrecht.

At this school I taught chemistry to a group of potentially highly motivated students. These students applied via the partner schools from the Junior College Utrecht. Next to my teaching, a part of my job was to develop educational material.

The magazine NVOX, belonging to the NVON, is published ten times a year and contains articles on science education. I started publishing columns about my first experiences as a teacher. Later on I wrote interviews with prominent people in the world of science education in The Netherlands, wrote a website column and set up a two page section focussed on starting teachers. Since January 2009 I have been creator and editor for this section called 'Podium'. The NVON organisation is based on voluntary work.

Young NVON is a board committee of the NVON and is concerned with science teachers, aged below 35. The NVON organisation is based on voluntary work.
