About Leff Bonney

I hope that I am remembered as a well-rounded academic that made a difference in both the lives of my students and in the performance of sales organizations. My favorite day as a professor at Florida State University is one where I get to work directly with students, gain new insights through research that is developed in collaboration with a corporate partner of the FSU Sales Institute and then share those insights with a client that I am working with as a consultant. My Teaching philosophy...teach students the theory behind good sales and sales management practices but more importantly, teach students how to APPLY the theories in a way that helps them develop into valuable assets for their future employers.My Research/Consulting philosophy...to get companies to stop subscribing to the MYTH that there is only ONE WAY to sell. Top performers are not "Consultative", "Challenger" "Transactional" or "Relationship" sellers...top performers are "Situational" sellers. They know how to adapt to buyers and deal types. So the trick for most companies is to figure out the most common selling situations their sales force faces, identify the "play" that works in those situations and then give reps the tools and skills needed to run the "play". But this takes a data driven approach to enabling sales person success which is where I hope to make a mark in both academic research and in helping individual companies through consulting opportunities.
