My career started in the rock star world of motorsport where I learnt the ways of agile, lean and startups before they were trendy. At an early age I was introduced to the concept of it taking 10,000 hours to be competent in anything worth doing. I then worked insane hours and qualified in three trades, mechanic, airframe welder and toolmaker, quicker than any of my peers. I gained a reputation for excellence in making things work well. In the endless pursuit of knowledge I completed a Mechanical Engineering degree and a Masters in Materials Science a year early. I then unleashed my enthusiasm and passion for getting stuff done on the automotive, defense and consulting sectors. I amassed an eclectic mix of program management, system engineering, enterprise architecture, big data and technology integration skills along the way. I developed a knack for integrating small team efficiencies in large traditional organizations struggling with complicated enterprise transformations.After a sabbatical involving several roadtrips, a patent, sailing and a startup (using Amazon Web Services of course) I've landed at AWS where black sheep like me are welcome. When I'm not building, engineering or deploying cloud services I'll be sailing or working on my cruising yacht with my wife.
