I am an early childhood advocate. I firmly believe that every child should have access to quality and life-long learning opportunities to engage and apply classroom learning. I started my teaching career as a kindergarten teacher with the Recovery School District in Bywater, New Orleans. I served as a community advocate to involve community organizations such as New Orleans Library, Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR), LSU AgCenter, WDSU - News6 to engage my kindergarteners and students with literacy and learning within the community. I also bring a wealth of HeadStart experience having developed a science and community garden curriculum for St. John the Baptist’s HeadStart and SMART Choices Youth Program as part of my AmeriCorps service with Catholic Charities of New Orleans. Currently, I am an instructional coach/strategist and National Board Certified Early Childhood Generalist who is responsible for the professional development of 50+ educators impacting the literacy development for 531 students at my school. I work with a diverse range of teachers to implement research-based instructional strategies to enhance language development for all, especially our ELLs and striving learners. In building the campus team, I collaborate with grade-level chairs and content specialists to build professional learning communities on English Language Learning strategies. I implement a student work analysis protocol with an instructional coaching model where teachers receive feedback to support teacher and student growth within the classroom. Since being here, our school has been LDOE Top Gains Honoree demonstrating exceptional growth for two years in a row (November, 2023).Serving on university advisory committees and community organizations, I developed after-school programming for teachers to build professional capacity on early literacy and building young readers’ skills and confidence. I also serve as Professional Learning Facilitator (PLF) with National Board helping Orleans Parish teachers achieve National Board certification in Early Childhood. I guide candidates to review standards and reflect on the impact of one’s intentional planning on student learning. I am currently researching AI teaching processes in facilitating more student-centered learning. (November 2023)
