With more than 1 in 8 women experiencing breast cancer in their lifetime, and over a third of those cases detected only after the cancer has spread beyond the breast, the work we do at Micrima is incredibly impactful. Early detection is crucial, as finding breast cancer while it’s still localized in the breast results in a 98%-99% survival rate. However, this rate drops significantly to around one-third if detection occurs after the cancer has spread. At Micrima, we have developed a ground breaking radio wave device that measures breast tissue properties without producing an image. This device can be used both inside and outside of hospital settings and is suitable for women of all ages. It is equally effective across all breast tissue types and does not require breast compression. If you’re not familiar with breast density, I highly recommend researching it.Our primary goal is to assist with pre-imaging tissue analysis, ensuring patients receive the most appropriate diagnostic technique for their individual tissue type from the start. Additionally, our device can be utilized in community settings, providing initial density outputs that, when combined with existing breast cancer risk tools, enable personalized risk profiling. This approach allows for frequent assessments and ensures that only women identified as having cancer or being at high risk are referred into imaging pathways.
