As a Health, Safety and Environment Superintendent, I am mainly responsible for providing direction and guidance to the management team and employees on Health, Safety and Environment issues within the workplace. I managed a Greenfield start up – New mining company, first mine site, full system setup. Moreover, I maintain and regularly review all related documentation in line with legal requirements. I issue updates and ensure documentation is easily available to all personnel, and provide training as and when required. In this role, I lead by example and promote best practice at all times with regard to safety at work in all areas. Furthermore, I efficiently and effectively devise the company’s HSE plan and ensure its implementation. Also, I implement and manage all injury management practices. I supervise and manage the dedicated Emergency Response Team and oversee the implementation of site training for broader nominated Emergency Response Team. In addition, I am responsible for budgeting, including Environment spend, Emergency response and site based mandatory safety training budget. I ensure that the job site is always kept in a clean and organised manner.

As a Senior Health and Safety Advisor, I was mainly responsible for providing direction, guidance and training to the team on HSE issues within the workplace. Furthermore, I performed day-to-day management of the Health and Safety management system in line with the company’s policies. Also, I carried out an active role in assessing risks and advising on appropriate control measures. I promoted a culture that ensured continuous improvement through a proactive identification of business risks. Additionally, I maintained established standards and improved overall performance metrics. Also, I regularly inspected and audited the site, systems and equipment to ensure compliance to health and safety policies were measured.

As a Health and Safety Advisor, I developed and implemented Health and Safety policies and procedures. Furthermore, I conducted training, toolbox talks and inductions and investigated incidents where required. I ensured that the company and all employees complied with all relevant Health and Safety regulations, providing appropriate guidance to minimise hazards and accidents. Additionally, I carried out Health and Safety inspections and monitored compliance with company Health and Safety objectives. Also, I managed and resolved accident and near miss investigations. I regularly attended pre-start meetings and departmental safety meetings. In addition, I performed monthly inspections with departmental Health and Safety representatives.

In this role, I collaborated with various departments and agencies to provide emergency management support to company personnel. Furthermore, I developed and implemented plans, procedures and protocols to maintain institutional awareness regarding emergency preparedness. Also, I assisted in the development and implementation of plans and strategic and operational procedures and protocols to execute emergency management functions. I reviewed incident action plans and provided input on emergency management goals and objectives. In addition, I developed and implemented emergency management systems and ensured that they complied with state and company regulations. I created incident management reports, including organisational charts and job action sheets. Moreover, I performed tests and evaluations on currently implemented emergency management plans in accordance to state regulations. Also, I inspected facilities and equipment used in emergency management operations to ensure that they were working properly. In these roles, I conducted coaching of Construction Managers as to mine site requirements. I regularly introduced new/revised safety systems into the new culture. Also, I implemented environmental requirements, including reporting, ground disturbance and weed and seed hygiene. Additionally, I ensured legislative compliance with the Mines Safety Inspection Act. Also, I monitored contractor compliance via weekly meetings, monthly performance assessments, quarterly performance assessments and annual performance assessments. I managed compliance with the internal HS Activity Schedule. Moreover, I administered and developed employee training systems. I actively developed relationships with the workforce, at all levels of the business to actively influence the Health and Safety culture. In addition, I reviewed conducted risk assessments and method statements and acted as the point of contact for all Health and Safety related queries on site. I ensured that all accidents were documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented. Furthermore, I kept up-to-date with all aspects of relevant health, safety welfare at work legislation. I actively conducted emergency response training, emergency management training. Also, I established Emergency management procedures and plans, Emergency response procedures and plans.
