Reporting to the Operations Director I am responsible for managing cost reporting on $400M USD of spend per annum. I redesigned the cost reporting structure to focus on unit costs of production. I introduced weekly cost review meetings for each department to focus on variance analysis and cost control. Each month I complete the Site Performance Report which is presented to the General Manager. The main part of my function is to act as a link between the finance team and the operations teams to make daily tasks easier for both teams. I also prepare capital expenditure requests as well as assisting in post implementation reviews. I manage and develop the skills of a team of 6 Mauritanian nationals.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer East I was responsible for managing the budget for the Eastern region which consisted of 5 operating mine sites with a turnover of $1 Billion AUD. I would also prepare monthly forecasts to ascertain the end of year expected EBIT performance for the region. During each of the years I was responsible for managing these financial KPI’s we achieved the maximum KPI score. I was responsible for reviewing contracts across the region as well as drafting capital expenditure requests. Mentoring and developing accounting staff was a large part of my role and a key success was reducing the month end closing timeline from three days down to two.

Reporting to the General Manager of the Stockton Mine I was part of a team brought in to improve the performance at the mine. I was able to train a team of 25 finance members in new procedures and policies, in particular introducing a program of Activity Based Costing which had not been done at the mine before. I managed the budget and forecast of $300M NZD of Operational expenditure and each year was able to achieve a 2% variance between budget unit costs and actual unit cost spend. I was also responsible for managing a capital budget of approx. $100M per annum and approving capital requests and assisting in post implementation reviews. My team’s engagement scores were consistently the highest of all the teams on site.

Reporting to the Management Accountant Manager I was responsible for coordinating and collating the budget and reports for the Underground and Drilling Region which had a turnover of $200M AUD.

Reporting to the Project Manager I was responsible for preparing all journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, production reports and time sheet data entry sign off. I managed a team of 5 site clerks. I would also prepare the budget and forecasts for the site which had expenditure of approx. $200M AUD per annum.

Reporting to the Finance Manager – Information Technology I was responsible for accruing costs not paid on Purchase Orders each month, balance sheet reconciliations as well as ad hoc financial analysis.
