With a big picture focus of enrollment management and student persistence, I am an ambitious and solutions-focused student advocate. As a low-income first-generation student myself, I have experienced the struggle of transitioning to and persisting through college by overcoming adversity. I have learned how the vernacular of HIED language and “common knowledge” information not advertised on websites puts continuing generation students at an advantage even with the same privileges and opportunities, and I aim to reduce barriers for students to achieve what they want through the pathway of pursuing higher education. While pursuing my Higher Education Master’s degree, I worked on preemptive communication from Financial Aid and Bursar or Student Accounts offices to reduce the number of students who experience financial barriers to completing a college degree. I expect to continue this trajectory of reducing barriers and advocating for students as I work my way up to becoming a Vice President for Enrollment Management at a Higher Education Institution over the next 10 years.
