About Leigh Schmidt
The first time I directly involved myself in politics was when I was in eighth grade and I testified before a Colorado State Senate committee in support of comprehensive sex education legislation. Going into the committee hearing, I was terrified. When I testified, my voice shook as I spoke. Once I finished my testimony, however, I felt an overwhelming sense of empowerment. Being involved in the political process taught me that I can make a difference as an individual. I am pursuing a career in public policy because I strive to make our world more just and equitable, and I am seeking opportunities to get involved in politics and government.
