As a Software Engineer, my passion is to create intuitive and accessible web applications. Whether I'm working with a designers or crafting a feature myself, I take great pride in crafting features that are a pleasure to use. The name of the game is eliminating pain points, and it's something that I never stop thinking about. Whether I'm testing something I've worked on or visiting a new website as a user, I'm always taking note of the things that make websites easy to use, or a struggle.Although I have an untraditional background for a tech employee (I don't many other History PhD drop-outs in the field), no one I know was surprised by the transition. I used to stay up into the wee hours of the night crafting HTML and CSS for MySpace Profiles and blogs, and I've built my own gaming computer more than once! When I decided to try out a Software bootcamp, I fell in love all over again. There's nothing compared to being able to just tackle a problem head on and iterate in real time (or close to it).In my last role, I gained extensive experience working in Ruby on Rails. I fell in love with Ruby as an incredibly readable and intuitive language (convention over configuration!), and appreciate the ease and flexibility of Rails as a framework. That being said, the project I was proudest of in my last role was an internal Javascript library to enhance the accessibility of our interactive components. I iterated on it several times, and it was so rewarding to step back and see how far I had come from my earliest stumbles into jQuery to something sophisticated, reusable, and extendable.As I look for new roles, I'm excited to continue working with Rails and features like Hotwire, but I've also enjoyed dabbling in Javascript frameworks like React and Vue.js. Ultimately, the project picks the tool, and I'm always willing to learn and grow into using new technologies to buckle down and build the best features possible!
