I build work based on my observations and immersion in the systems of landscape by walking, looking, and collecting detritus. The encounter plays a fundamental role in my work. It takes me out of the studio and into the terrain where experiences combine with substance through time and space. By situating myself as a part of a system my understanding of place becomes interactive. Active engagement moves my perception of landscape as a scenic vista to a larger ecological understanding of place.
