My main objective is to enhance capacities on the fields of Biosafety and Biosecurity and give reliable information to the public. I have been leading those issues in Brazil and supporting Latin American countries with risk assessment and risk management of biological material of concern and developments of new technologies since 1983. I have received the Biosafety Heroe award from IFBA in 2016 and the Norman Borlaug Award for supporting a sustainable development of agriculture in Brazil in 2018.Biosafety/Biosecurity should be in the agenda of all professional working with materials that can present a risk to humankind and/or to the environment. Risk assessment should be done under science base evaluation and case by case approach.All research project with biological material should consider Biosafety and Biosecurity measures as a requirement to be put in place. I will continue supporting the engagement of researchers and stakeholders to the adoption of better Biosafety and Biosecurity measures and supporting public information on new developments of biotechnology.

PresidentThe Brazilian Biosafety Association- Anbio Jan 1999 - Jan 2020Rio De Janeiro, BrazilI have been the mentor of Biosafety and Biosecurity programs in Brazil since 1983. I have been responsible for the quality control of vaccines in Oswaldo Cruz Foundation from 1983-1990. At that time I have introduced Biosafety measures in all labs doing quality control of vaccines at the National Institute for Quality Control en Health at Fiocruz. I was invited to lead the Quality Program at the Ministery of Health in Brazil and then to be the representative of the Ministery of Health in the Brazilian National Biosafety Committee- CTNBio where I was president for 3 years. I have been the mentor of the Brazilian Biosafety framework for GMO since its first edition in 1995 and has worked in advising the Parliament and the Brazilian Government to the implementation of the Biosafety Law in Brazil. I have supported FAO and WHO on their Biosafety programs and trainnings on the fields of Biosafety and Biosecurity for Latin American countries and the Caribbean.I have developed capacity building programs on Biosafety since 1983 to Latin American and the Caribbean countries and more recently on Biosecurity issues.I have supported Latin American countries in establishing their Biosafety processes and risk assessment and risk management of GMO. Also I have developed Biosafety trainning programs for labortory's workers in LA managing biological material of concern and for dual use researches.
