Profile bio

About Leila Groth Ibarra

I have a B. A. in Visual Arts at Feevale University (2016). I act as an artist and curator, as well as a translator for ENG - PTBR.As an artist, my production addresses the concepts of body, viscerality, and accumulation, working with hybrid processes and the expanded field of painting. Among the main techniques explored are painting, drawing, engraving, assemblage and installation. The focus of my artistic works is on the female body, incorporating materials - such as menstrual blood, which is strongly stigmatized - and activities traditionally considered part of the female universe - such as embroidery and crochet - to resignify them through art. I seek to question the standards imposed on women, especially those related to female anatomy, in order to naturalize, demystify, and remove them from the object status. As a curator, I seek to take art to more democratic and accessible spaces, decentralize it from galleries and museums, and bring more visibility to women artists and other minorities who have been marginalized within the art history and market.Since 2013 I am a member of Coletivo Mariposa, an art collective that gives new meaning to fairy tales through contemporary works, producing with a feminist bias that questions concepts related to femininity. We create content for social media in order to provide more visibility for women and the LGBT + community. In addition to working in the Visual Arts area, I am an ENG - PTBR translator and currently work in the video game localization field, in which I have also acted as a proofreader. I have experience with translation and proofreading of scientific articles in the art area as well.

Listed skills include Painting, Illustration, Contemporary Art, Curating, and 18 others.
