I am a 2023 MSc Physics graduate from the Weizmann Institute of Science with 7 years of technical and laboratory experience. I am experienced in project design, electronic design, nano-fabrication, and cryogenics.During my thesis, I designed and developed the infrastructure and techniques for a low-temperature shot noise measurement in bilayer graphene. This required skilled work with cryogenics, vacuum systems, electronics, and hardware and software development.

Laboratory TechnicianLife Science Institute, Ubc Feb 2019 - Sep 2020Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaDesigned and established an advanced medical genetics lab for Dr. Josef Penninger, Professor of medical genetics and Director of Life Science Institute @ UBC. As technician, managed the smooth operation of the lab. Collaborating with Prof. Keng Chou, built a five-color STORM microscope, with improved color-overlapping and stabilization against thermal-drift.

Honors Thesis And Sura Scholarship ResearcherMcgill University Sep 2016 - Aug 2017Montreal, Quebec, CanadaPrototyped the connection of sub-micron metal contacts to carbon nanotubes using the world’s first commercially available Thermal Scanning Probe Lithography tool. Mastered a variety of cleanroom nano-fabrication techniques. -
Undergraduate Research AssistantMcgill University: Research, Partnerships & More Jul 2015 - Sep 2015Under the supervision of Prof. Jack Sankey of McGill's Physics Department, I built an optical device and developed a feed-forward compensation algorithm that successfully stabilized a laser interferometer against reproducible mechanical vibrations. I characterized the response of the interferometer’s optical gap to a periodic impulse perturbation, built the experimental apparatus using optical components from Professor Sankey's lab, and wrote a Python code to acquire, handle, analyze, and… Show more Under the supervision of Prof. Jack Sankey of McGill's Physics Department, I built an optical device and developed a feed-forward compensation algorithm that successfully stabilized a laser interferometer against reproducible mechanical vibrations. Physics ResearcherSimon Fraser University May 2014 - Aug 2014Under the supervision of Prof. John Bechhoefer at Simon Fraser University, I investigated the consequences of introducing a second sensor to a traditional PID control algorithm. I showed that the ‘Split-PID’ algorithm can outperform PID control loops based on one sensor. These findings were published October 17, 2014 in AIP Review of Scientific Instruments . My role in the research project was to build the experimental apparatus, acquire data from experimental runs, extract key control parameters and test the theoretical model. I used Labview to build and implement the control the control algorithm, and Matlab and Mathematica for data analysis. A final part of the experiment, not published, involved using Matlab to determine the transfer function of the device. Show less -
Research InternKairama Jun 2013 - Aug 2013UbcReporting to the founder/VP engineering of this UBC technology spinout, I created a Matlab model investigating the thermal transfer properties of Kairama’s proprietary gas compression technology. I documented my findings in a report and gave an oral presentation to the R&D team.VP engineering Don Gayton has reviewed that 'The results in the end were highly usable... Leith knows his math very well, is well spoken and a good writer, along with being pleasant to work with'.
