Profile bio

About Michael Le

My long-term goal is using my experiences as a clinician scientist, advocate, computer programmer, and educator to encourage the next-generation of dentists to go beyond their primary role as a health care provider. There is only so much direct patient care any given can dentist can do to address the oral health disparities found not only in the United States, but around the world. Solutions to such disparities require participation of dentists to not only play a role in the identification of the cause of the disparities, but development and implementation of the solution as well. Thus, this mandates dentists to also become researchers, advocates, implementers, and educators.Interestingly, the caliber of individuals who aim to become dentists every year continues to increase and these individuals show great abilities in handling such roles that dentists need to fulfill while receiving dental training. Sadly, once they have completed their dental training, numerous factors delay or inhibit their ability to continue in those roles. Thus, I strive to show--by example--the next-generation dentist that continuing to participate in one of these roles after dental training will not only remain feasible with the right attitude, but will complement the values they have at the end of dental training.====Simultaneously, I want to use my computational background to help people address causes close to their heart. While I could personally handle the computational aspects for them, helping people to develop a computational skill set creates independence and enables those people to further excel in addressing their cause much better. Thus, I value the opportunities to not only create the tools that enable biomedical researchers to be more strategic in their research aims, but help facilitate increased use of higher throughput research techniques to increase the rate of discovery.

Listed skills include Tooth Development, Enamel, Student Government, Teaching, and 21 others.
