The key purpose of my role is to provide the strategic leadership, development, delivery and management of Renfrewshire Council’s Waste Services Operation, including Refuse Collection, Refuse Disposal and Household Waste Recycling Centers, and Ongoing development and delivery of the Resource and Recycling Strategy Development • Providing strategic management and direction for the delivery of high quality, cost effective Waste Services for the Council,• Taking a strategic role for the development of the Waste Service for all stakeholders incorporating Council services, partners, and communities,• Ensuring a consistent corporate approach to driving forward transformation processes that support the achievement of strategic aims of the Waste Service and assist in the further advance of the Council’s key aims and objectives in relation to the Community Plan, Shared Commitments, Single Outcome Agreement and Best Value.• Responsibility for Closed Landfill Site (Linwood moss)• Delivery and Management of Clyde Valley Residual Waste Contract

Responsibilities:• To identify and secure better partnership arrangements between GCC and transport operators/ regulators, businesses and communities to achieve environmental improvements in the public realm• To liaise with transport operators and regulators throughout Glasgow to secure environmental improvements on road/ rail networks• Liaising with key stakeholders including Council and Commonwealth Games officials to ascertain specific requirements• Representing the Council’s interest and organising the various professional people working on a project• Ensuring that all the aims and quality standards of the project are met • Recruiting specialists and sub-contractors and monitoring them to ensure guidelines are maintained• Provide planning, delivery and reporting documents including chairing regular progress meetings• Arranging sign-off/ handover meetings to hand control over to the Organising Commitee• Securing funding for any works not already identified/ budgeted forAchievements: • Developed a working relationship with transport operators and local businesses to ensure works were carried out to a high standard and in a timely manor for Glasgow 2014• Set in place mechanisms to ensure a partnership approach is taken for works beyond Glasgow 2014

Projects Managed (Thurrock Council):•. Overseeing the successful transfer of Waste Services from external Contractor (Veolia Environmental) to be operated in house• Implementation of new kerbside collection scheme (3 bin)• Waste Collection Efficiency savings - Route optimisation and implementation of new collection scheme• Fortnightly waste collections (from weekly)• Construction of new waste-depot including staff relocation• Refurbishment of the South Ockendon Sports Pavilion and of St. Clements Way HGV Vehicle Workshop• Relocation of Highways department into new offices• Implementation of waste management software system (Bartech)• Introducing 5S system into stores facility• Procurement of Major Highways Contracts and of replacement vehicles (capital scheme)Responsibilities include:• Liaising with key stakeholders to ascertain specific requirements• Agreeing project objectives providing independent advice on the management of projects • Representing the client's interest and organising the various professional people working on a project• Ensuring that all the aims and quality standards of the project are met • Recruiting specialists and sub-contractors and monitoring them to ensure guidelines are maintained• Using the latest IT to keep track of people and progress as well as accounting, costing and billing• Carrying out risk assessments• Provide planning, delivery and reporting documents and managing budgets• Business development – developing and maintaining client contacts and preparing proposals • Arranging sign-offs/ handover meetings to hand control over to the client• Managing risk-registersAchievements: • The implementation of the new curbside collection system, a major achievement and completing the key objectives and targets set out in the Council's Waste Strategy. • Achieving the savings from the route optimisation was essentially for the directorate to be able to stay within its set budget
